It’s that time of the year where bloggers write about New Year’s Resolutions, New Year’s “Goals”, having an inspirational “Word of the Year” - anything that has to do with setting some kind of intension to live out for the following year. And while people like to say that you can start over ANY day, there is something special and fresh about a new year - month 1, day 1. It feels good to make a plans even if it doesn’t pan out the way you expect, the point is the start of a new year is a good time to feel hopeful and optimistic.
I started 2018 doing the 40 Days to Personal Revolution challenge at the yoga studio. I’ll be doing that again this year. I wasn’t going to so close after Yoga Teacher Training but I changed my mind. I thought I need a break from the journaling and self-inquiry but it’s just an excuse to avoid doing the work of self-improvement. I love going through my Instagram feed and seeing so many other yoga studios also starting the 40 Day challenge this month so it feels like being a part of something bigger and it’s really cool. If you’re curious, you can do the challenge on your own with your own copy of 40 Days to Personal Revolution by Baron Baptiste.
Self-improvement doesn’t always feel good and fuzzy. It can get heavy, ugly, uncomfortable, you want to change the subject and think about something else, but that is where the progress comes in. Sometimes you got to go through the shit just to come out on the other side lighter. I don’t have any big plans for 2019 but I got this SWEET Make Shit Happen 2019 Planner from Meraki Printing. It’s more than just a planner but a journal with monthly prompts and reflection.
In addition to the 40 Days, January also includes:
Taking my first Baptiste Yoga training - Baptiste Assisting Course
Joining the Assisting Team at Firefly Yoga
Beginning my mentorship at Firefly Yoga
Teaching my first Community Class!!!
When I started 2018, I had NO IDEA that I would end it completing Yoga Teacher Training, not a clue! I didn’t decide to pursue Yoga Teacher Training until the Spring. It was through the 40 Days program that I shifted my thinking - less waiting and delaying. No more excuses not taking that big step and just go for it! In the new year I want to keep being open to new possibility and discovery, and less “Should of, could of….”.
I look forward to learning, growing, trying new things, working with others doing what I love, going to new places, meeting new people, sharing more yoga love, and making the most of whatever opportunities come my way. ❤️ How about you?
